User Stories
Challenge
Whether designing a website for a financial institution or a pen, knowing the end user and their needs is crucial to developing meaningful innovation. In this case study, the user stories relate to the development of a sales tool that is internal-facing. Different user groups had very different needs for the same tool, and what seems like a simple functionality request was really more complicated.
Solution
Articulating "As a <specific user group> I need to <goal> so I can <benefit> " for the different user groups identified some potential risks as well as some opportunities to significantly improve the workflow for multiple groups.
Results
When facing multiple competing priorities, communicating the value of functionality across the team creates a common understanding of the needs and helps influence design decisions. This list of user stories created the opportunity to prioritize different functionality and ensure the main user groups had the functionality they needed to be successful. Additional features were added to the backlog.
